Alcoholism
Treatment
Alcoholism treatment tackles
the disease of alcoholism, from which one out of thirteen
Americans suffer. In order to break free of alcoholism, it
is important to undergo the right form of alcoholism treatment
for you.
When you begin alcoholism
treatment, the first step is undergoing alcohol detox, which
rids your body of any alcohol in your system. The next step
is recovery, when you work on yourself emotionally to help
discover and resolve the problems that led you to alcoholism.
Several different kinds
of alcohol treatment are available. When you make the decision
to get alcoholism treatment, you must decide which form of
alcoholism treatment you need. Choose from two basic types
of alcoholism treatment:
· Short-Term Alcoholism
Treatment: Usually a
four-week program, short-term alcoholism treatment involves
detox and recovery for the short-term.
· Long-Term Alcoholism Treatment:
A much longer program, long-term alcoholism treatment focuses
on the recovery period, allowing alcoholics to explore the
psychological reasons behind their alcoholism.
Once you have selected
the appropriate type of treatment, you must decide what type
of facility you want to visit:
· Inpatient Alcoholism
Treatment: When patients
check into a rehab facility and plan to live on the premises,
they are undergoing inpatient alcoholism treatment.
· Outpatient Alcoholism
Treatment: Outpatient alcoholism treatment involves
attending meetings and counseling sessions at the treatment
center, but going home at night to sleep. Outpatient alcoholism
treatment is good for those who cannot take time off work
to recover from their alcoholism.
The National Institute
on Alcohol Abuse (NIAA) recommends alcoholics receive ongoing,
long-term alcohol treatment, such as that found in sober living
facilities. The longer you receive such alcohol treatment,
the better your chances of achieving long-term sobriety.
